Support an Initiative and make a difference
Who We Are
The purpose of the John Dramani Mahama Initiatives (JDMI) is to create a platform to encourage well-meaning people to contribute resources to provide basic needs of economically disadvantaged areas in Ghana. This is an initiative to support the government of Ghana’s effort at tackling the myriad challenges with limited resources.
Two of the challenges that the JDMI will focus on tackling initially include providing access to potable drinking water and building classroom blocks to replace schools under trees in rural communities in Ghana.
Provision of potable drinking water
Traditionally, the people in rural areas have obtained water from unprotected ponds or tanks, wells, dugouts, cisterns, and sometimes streams and rivers. These water sources are frequented daily for collecting drinking and cooking water, washing clothes, bathing, livestock washing, etc. Most of these water sources are heavily polluted and unwholesome for consumption.
This condition has existed in Ghana for years and shouldn’t be acceptable in this twenty-first century. Providing access to potable drinking water for all Ghanaians should be a national priority.
Provision of basic school infrastructure
While access to basic education has been improved over the years, the provision of school infrastructure has not kept pace with the needs of pupils. There is a need for decent classrooms for children in rural communities in Ghana.
Consequent to the deplorable conditions under which pupils’ go to school under trees, their opportunities to have daily lessons is determined by weather conditions. They are unable to attend school when it rains. Most of the villages with schools-under-trees are located in tropical forest areas that experience long annual rainy seasons. The rains limit the number of school days and hence deny the pupils learning opportunities.
